Supported Formats & Container Compatibility
AudioExtractly inspects container headers and extracts raw media streams directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Review the complete matrix of supported containers, codecs, subtitle streams, and technical limitations.
Supported Video Containers
Our in-browser engine parses modern multimedia containers to detect audio, video, and subtitle streams without sending data across a network.
Matroska Video (MKV)
.mkvFull multi-track audio and subtitle demuxing. Excellent container for multi-language commentaries and high-definition video rips.
MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4 / M4V)
.mp4, .m4vExtracts audio tracks to original format or MP4 audio containers. Fast lossless demuxing without quality degradation.
WebM Video (WebM)
.webmStandard HTML5 open container. Extracts high-efficiency Opus or Vorbis audio bit-for-bit.
QuickTime Movie (MOV)
.movSupports multi-track audio from camera recordings, screen captures, and video editing exports.
Lossless Stream Demuxing vs Transcoding
Unlike traditional online converters that decode audio into uncompressed PCM and then re-encode it with lossy compression (causing generation loss and audio artifacts), AudioExtractly performs direct stream demuxing (stream copying). The audio stream packets are extracted intact from the container envelope without altering a single bit of audio data. This preserves 100% original fidelity and completes in seconds.
No Quality Degradation Guarantee
Because no decompression or compression algorithms run on the extracted audio packets, dynamic range, frequency response, sample rate, and bit depth remain identical to the master track inside the video container.
Subtitle Stream Capabilities
Supported Text Subtitles: Embedded SubRip (.srt), WebVTT (.vtt), and Advanced SubStation Alpha (.ass / .ssa) text streams are parsed and extracted directly to clean text files.
Unsupported Image Subtitles: DVD VobSub (.idx/.sub) and Blu-ray PGS (Presentation Graphic Stream) are bitmap image formats. Extracting them as editable text requires Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which is outside the scope of AudioExtractly.
Burned-in (hardcoded) subtitles permanently rendered into the video frames cannot be extracted by container demuxing.
Practical Operating Limits
WebAssembly Memory Heap
Browsers allocate 32-bit memory addressing for WebAssembly (typically capped near 2 GB of virtual memory). Very large files exceeding available browser heap may fail to load.
DRM & Encrypted Media
Protected streams (e.g. Widevine, FairPlay) cannot be inspected or extracted.
Client Device Performance
Demuxing speed is bounded by your device’s local CPU and disk read throughput, not an internet connection speed.
